Overview
The Outer Cape is the dramatic forearm-and-fist at the tip of the peninsula, where most of the land is protected as the Cape Cod National Seashore — 40 miles of pristine Atlantic beach, dunes, and kettle ponds. It runs from Eastham through arty, oyster-famous Wellfleet and quiet Truro out to Provincetown, the Cape's vibrant, LGBTQ+-welcoming art colony and whale-watching capital. This is the Cape at its most beautiful and untamed.

Getting There
Route 6 is the ONLY road out — Eastham is ~2 hr from Boston, Provincetown ~2.5 hr. In summer, take the fast ferry from Boston to Provincetown (90 min) to skip the traffic, or fly into Provincetown (PVC).
Best Time to Visit
July–August for full P-town energy and warm ponds; late May–June and September–October are stunning and calmer. Whale watching runs ~April–October. Many P-town businesses are seasonal — check hours in the shoulders.
Good to Know
• Route 6 is a single road — summer Saturdays and late-afternoon returns jam badly; travel early or midday • National Seashore beaches charge a daily/seasonal parking fee; lots fill by 10am — go early • Provincetown parking is scarce and pricey — use municipal lots, bike, or arrive by ferry • Swim near lifeguards; the Atlantic side has strong surf and is white-shark habitat
