Marstons Mills is Barnstable's pond village — the one without a saltwater beach of its own, and the one locals choose on purpose. It takes its name from Benjamin Marston's fulling and weaving mill, and the mill pond at the Route 28 and Route 149 crossroads still anchors the village, with a working herring run that carries fish up to Middle Pond every spring (Barnstable Land Trust, Mill Pond Preserve).

Spectacle Pond Conservation Area
A quiet loop through scrub pine and oak around the shores of Spectacle Pond in the interior of Marstons Mills. The kettle pond landscape feels timeless and undisturbed. Excellent freshwater fishing access and good bird watching year-round. One of the more overlooked conservation parcels in mid-Cape Barnstable.

West Barnstable Conservation Area (Trail of Tears)
At ~1,200 acres, this is the largest town conservation area on Cape Cod, famous among riders as the 'Trail of Tears' (TOT). Roughly 20+ miles of twisty, rolling singletrack wind through pine-oak forest with short technical climbs, rock gardens, and patches of soft sand. Primarily a mountain-biking destination, it's also popular for hiking, trail running, and cross-country skiing. Note: hunting is permitted in season, so wear blaze orange in fall/winter.

Bridge Creek Conservation Area
About 2.5 miles of easy walking trails through ~246 acres of remarkably diverse wetland habitat: stone walls, abandoned cranberry bogs, tidal and freshwater streams, open marsh, and hardwood swamp. The northern trail toward Route 6A crosses a boardwalk and two bridges with views over Bridge Creek marsh, excellent for birdwatching. Connects to Jenkins Wildlife Sanctuary and Bridge Street Conservation Area for longer loops.

Fuller Farm & Wheeler Holly Preserve
Barnstable Land Trust's Fuller Farm in Marstons Mills offers about a mile of easy walking: a short woodland loop overlooking historic cranberry bogs, an open meadow trail, and the newer Holly Loop through the adjacent Wheeler Holly Preserve. The Wheeler loop navigates woodland, bog, and field with a bench view of Middle Pond. A restored 2024 barn anchors the working farm. Leashed dogs welcome.

Burgess Park
A popular town park in Marstons Mills purchased in 1989 for its historic and scenic values.
