Newcomb Hollow Shop is the white house with the red door and red window boxes at 275 Main Street, with wicker chairs set out on the front patio. The shop bills itself as handmade Cape Cod: locally made pottery, lamps, planters, birdhouses and earrings and necklaces. You'll also find soft pashminas, kids' lamps and craft chocolate. It's a good place to find a coastal gift or something for the house that wasn't made far away.
Payomet Cirque by the Sea is the circus program of the nonprofit Payomet Performing Arts Center, and its year-round home base is a red-and-white Big Top tent at the WHAT Theater campus on Route 6 in Wellfleet. Each summer the professional troupe writes and stages an original show from scratch, with acrobats, aerialists and jugglers telling stories built around themes like ocean health, climate change and backyard pollinators. Kids can try it themselves at weekly summer Circus Camp, which wraps each session with a showcase for family. Classes continue into the fall for everyone from 3- and 4-year-olds to adult aerialists. Their graffiti-painted Cirque by the Sea bus is hard to miss. Stop by the Payomet Box Office in the plaza at 2616 Route 6 (beside PJ's) for tickets and questions; the shows and classes happen under the Big Top at 2357 Route 6.
Pizza Spinello is a family-run, take-out-only shop that makes Roman-style pan pizza by the tray, downstairs at 317B Main Street below Ragg Time. The dough ferments for at least 48 hours and uses a custom blend of King Arthur flours, topped with imported Italian ingredients and extra virgin olive oil. Order ahead online and choose a pickup time; they don't take phone orders. To find it, look for the hand-lettered blue sign over the side alley and follow it down to the blue door.
PJ's Family Restaurant has been a family-owned seafood stop on Route 6 in Wellfleet since 1971, run by the Reeves family. The menu is fresh local seafood and longtime local favorites, with an ice cream window out front for afterward. Order online or by phone for takeout, or eat at PJ's — the seating is saved for guests who order on site. It's seasonal: the Wellfleet restaurant is open Thursday to Monday, 11:30am–8pm, and closes for the season on Monday, October 12.
Sailor is a jewelry and lifestyle shop on Main Street, edited by jewelry designer Sarah McGuire, who has spent summers in Wellfleet since she was a child. It carries work from more than 30 independent jewelry designers, including engagement and wedding pieces, along with a changing mix of ceramics, artwork, accessories and niche fragrance. The original Sailor is in Chicago; this Wellfleet shop opened in 2023 and runs from May through October. Look for the crisp white storefront with black-framed windows and benches out front.
The Block & Tackle is a barbecue tavern on Route 6 in Wellfleet, open year-round for lunch and dinner. Order off the chalkboard, grab a picnic table in the fenced-in yard, and settle in with a cold beer — an easy, laid-back stop any time of year. Check their site for trivia nights and other events.
The Blue Willow is a small blue-shingled bakery and cafe on Route 6 in South Wellfleet, easy to spot by its round willow-tree sign and the row of wooden Adirondack chairs out front. Inside, the pastry case holds croissants, baguettes, cookies, bars and little custard donuts, with self-serve coffee urns along the wall. The kitchen turns out breakfast in the morning and lunch in the afternoon, and pastry and beverages are available all day. Out back, picnic tables sit under orange umbrellas, and you can order ahead online for pickup.
The Furies is a house-cleaning company headquartered in Wellfleet that serves the Outer and Lower Cape, from Provincetown and Truro down through Orleans, Brewster, Harwich and Chatham. Beyond general house cleaning, they handle spring and fall deep cleans, changeovers for vacation rentals, carpet and upholstery steam cleaning, post-construction cleanups, and window, gutter and power washing. They also rent linens, "Sheets, Towels, and everything in between," which is handy for rental owners. Crews work in teams of two or three depending on the job. Their office is in the brick plaza on Route 6 under a black "The Furies" awning.
The Beachcomber Store is the Route 6 shop of the Wellfleet Beachcomber, the bar and restaurant in a former U.S. Lifesaving Station overlooking the Atlantic. It's a small blue-shingled cottage in the South Wellfleet plaza, with an oval wave sign on the roof and 'T-shirts · Gifts · Beachwear' painted on the windows. Inside are Comber-branded tees, hoodies and sweats, hats, kids' clothing and gear. Per the shop, you can try things on here, which you can't at the stand at the restaurant, and exchange merchandise between the two.
Van Rensselaer's is a sit-down restaurant and raw bar on Route 6 in South Wellfleet, right across from the turnoff to Marconi Beach and the National Seashore headquarters. The raw bar leads with local Billingsgate oysters and littlenecks, and the dinner menu runs from New England clam chowder ("a house specialty") and lobster cakes to local lobsters, a nightly catch from Chef Derek, and land dishes like prime rib. Their roadside sign sums it up as "Fresh • Local • Land • Sea," with salads and plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices marked on the menu. Dinner starts at 4pm, there's an early appy hour, and Sunday mornings bring breakfast.
Wellfleet Cinemas is the Outer Cape's year-round movie house: four screens with digital projection and Dolby sound, right beside the Wellfleet Drive-In on Route 6. There are daily matinees all summer, which makes it the go-to plan on a rainy beach day. It's part of the Wellfleet Drive-In complex, which dates to 1957.
Wellfleet Dairy Bar & Mini Golf sits at the Wellfleet Drive-In: soft serve and hard-packed ice cream, hand-mixed shakes, Razzles and sundaes, plus a retro 18-hole mini golf course — look for the big blue whale. It's a seasonal spot, open June through Labor Day, and the perfect stop before a movie at the drive-in.
The Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre is a Cape Cod summer classic: first-run double features on a 100-foot screen every summer night, from Memorial Day through a little after Labor Day. It's been on Route 6 since 1957, and the field hosts the Wellfleet Flea Market on weekends from May, weather permitting. Pull in early with the family and grab a cone at the Dairy Bar next door. It's closed for the season after Labor Day — the indoor Wellfleet Cinemas next door runs year-round.
Wellfleet Marketplace is the white storefront with red-and-white striped awnings in the middle of Wellfleet center. It's a family-owned grocery, general store, deli, gift shop and wine and beer shop rolled into one. The deli counter does hand-lettered chalkboard sandwiches and Boar's Head meats sliced to order. The aisles cover groceries, produce, meat, books and Wellfleet sweatshirts, and the store stays open year-round.
Look for the red-and-white lighthouse on the roof of the navy shop on Main Street. That's Ragg Time Ltd., whose hanging sign also reads Wellfleet Oyster Clothing. It sells casual, comfortable women's clothing and is home of the original Wellfleet Oyster apparel for men, women and children. Inside, under old timber beams and a skylight, cubbies are stacked with oyster-logo tees and sweatshirts in every color. Shelves of caps and Wellfleet beach-name shirts make easy souvenirs.
Wellfleet Preservation Hall is the community arts and cultural center on Main Street, in the restored former Our Lady of Lourdes church. The restoration kept the tin ceilings, wood balcony and leaded glass windows, and the hall now hosts music, film, classes, art exhibits, literary events and private celebrations. Outside, a sloping garden of asters and perennials holds sculpture and outdoor art along the walkway up to the hall. Check the hall's calendar before you go, because most of the life here happens in the evenings and on weekends.
Winslow's Tavern calls itself casually elegant dining, and it fits: a white house on Main Street with navy-blue dining rooms, wide pine floors and wine bottles racked along the ceiling beams. You can sit indoors, upstairs, or out on the brick patio under the trees and string lights. The menu out front leads with an oyster and raw bar, and on a fall evening the oysters came on ice with warm bread and mint-topped cocktails. Seating is first come, first served, and the tavern asks larger groups to reserve.
